Lost

Lost-season2 mynd3 Have you ever lost anything in the Presidio? Other than your mind, that is. Sunglasses? Cell phone? Presidigo shuttle pass?

Well I just found out the Presidio Trust has a lost and found service. While likely just full of tourist cameras and money belts, it might be worth calling them if you just can't live without finding that lost picture of Auntie Ling Ling.

The Spanish are Back...with Violins

Roughly 150 years after armed U.S. troops assumed control over the Presidio from the Spanish, the Consulate General of Spain is back, and he has a message..."please come to enjoy classical musica."

That's right, as part of the "Live at the Presidio" concert series, the Spanish Consulate of all people is bringing the public live classical music. These concerts are held at the Golden Gate Club, 135 Fisher Loop (near the cemetery). Schedule is below:

Zarabanda Baroque Concert
Thursday, September 13 at 8 pm
Through period study and musicology, the musical ensemble Zarabanda presents an historic perspective, capturing the authentic style and spirit of the music they perform. The use of original instruments and reliable copies of antique instruments, their knowledge of music theory, and the group’s stylistic criteria create a genuine interpretation of ancient music.

BdB duo Concert

Thursday, November 8, at 8 pm
Spain’s BdB duo, internationally acclaimed pianists Maria Jose Barandiaran and Maria Jose de Bustos, make their North American debut at the Presidio.

The Creature is Coming! - "Film in the Fog" Saturday 9/29

I don't know who thought that "Film in the Fog" would be an attractive title to an event like this, but I can't deny the lure and lore of the Creature!

Our neighbors the SF Film Society (and of course the Presidio Trust) are bringing to the public a screening of Creature from the Black Lagoon on Saturday, September 29, on the lawn of the Main Post Theater (99 Moraga Avenue). The schedule is as follows:
  • 5:30 pm - Live music with the Supersonic Saxes from Air National Guard Band; picnic and food sales
  • 7:00 pm – Outdoor screening of Creature from the Black Lagoon
Unfortunately it doesn't sound like the film will be shown in 3D (as was the original movie in 1954), and I give it a 50-50 chance that the event will be a glorified SF Film Society employee party. As such, I'm going to pass on this one. Let me know if you go and I will be happy to post your review!

OceanFest coming October 6th

OceanFest is a festival down on Crissy Field hosted by the Farallones Marine Sanctuary Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the Gulf of the Farallones wildlife. In case you didn't know, the Farallon Islands are a group of islands just off the coast of San Francisco and completely surrounded by Great White Sharks! If I come across one of these animals in the wild I'm not so sure it's the shark's life I would be concerned with, but there is no denying that this is a good cause.

By the way, there are a ton of raffle prizes at this event, including a Kayaking trip for two to Magdalena Bay (Baja California), a six day whale and birding adventure, a one night stay at the Pelican Inn (Muir Beach), a half a case of wines by Thumbprint and Valley of the Moon wineries, etc., etc. Expect sustainable seafood and vegetarian fare.

The festival takes place from 11am-4pm on Saturday October 6th down on Crissy Field. http://www.farallones.org/news/event_calendar.php

Free Shakespeare in the Park comes to the Presidio

SF Shakes (not to be confused with CalShakes of Orinda) is putting on the classic Shakespeare play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in the Presidio this year! You remember, the one with the fairies in the forest? In case you don't, this is one of Shakespeare's classic romantic comedies. Might make for a nice afternoon picnic one of these weekends.

There are nine free shows of the play, and the schedule is posted below. You may have already seen the stage sitting in the Main Post area across from the Bay School (Main Post Parade Ground Lawn between Graham St & Keyes Ave, near the Officer's Club & Visitor's Center). Here is a video from the sfshakes website...I could've sworn I saw Mel Brooks in that video somewhere ;)
